Pastor's Appreciation

What does the scripture say?

“A Servant worthy of his hire” Pastor Appreciation
1. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13. It calls upon us to give back to our pastors because of all they have given and done for us.
"And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love" (The Message).
2. 1 Timothy 5:17. It commands us to doubly honor those who minister to us.
"Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially they who labor in the word and doctrine".
3. 1 Corinthians 9:14. The context of this verse makes it plain that this verse refers to giving our pastors a fair salary.
“The Lord commanded that those who preach the good news should be supported by those who benefit from it.” (New Living Translation)
4. Colossians 2:1-5. It really shows the heart of a pastor...what he thinks about us, what he wants for us, and what he works for on our behalf.
"For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you, and for those in Laodicea, and for those who have not met me face to face. My goal is that their hearts, having been knit together in love, may be encouraged, and that they may have all the riches that assurance brings in their understanding of the knowledge of the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I say this so that no one will deceive you through arguments that sound reasonable. For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your morale and the firmness of your faith in Christ." (New Living Translation)
5. Philippians 1:3-5, 7-11 the heart of our pastors.
"Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. I always pray for you, and I make my requests with a heart full of joy because you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now.
"It is right that I should feel as I do about all of you, for you have a very special place in my heart. We have shared together the blessings of God, both when I was in prison and when I was out, defending the truth and telling others the Good News." (New Living Translation)
6. James 3:1, shows that our pastors willingly put themselves under a higher standard for our benefit.
"Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged by God with greater strictness." (New Living Translation)
7. 2 Peter 3:17. It shows that our pastors work diligently to watch over our souls.
"I am writing you ahead of time, dear friends, so that you can watch out and not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people." (New Living Translation)
Passages that Tell Us How to Show Our Pastor Appreciation
8. Colossians 4:2-4. One of the most important ways we can show our pastor appreciation is by praying for them."Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving. At the same time pray for us too, that God may open a door for the message so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may make it known as I should." (New Living Translation)
9. Hebrews 13:18-19 also encourages us to pray for our pastors.
"Pray for us, for our conscience is clear and we want to live honorably in everything we do. I especially need your prayers right now so that I can come back to you soon." (New Living Translation)
10. Hebrews 13:7. We show our appreciation for our pastors when we follow their godly example.
"Remember your leaders who first taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and trust the Lord as they do." (New Living Translation)
11. 3 John 1:3-4. Our pastors feel appreciated when we faithfully live godly lives.
"Some of the brothers recently returned and made me very happy by telling me about your faithfulness and that you are living in the truth. I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children live in the truth."
12. Hebrews 13:17 tells us to show our pastor appreciation by submitting to his direction.
"Obey your spiritual leaders and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they know they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this joyfully and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit."

The Gospel of the Kingdom

Ministry of Reconciliation

Gospel of the Kingdom
The kingdom of God is at hand

Is the work of organized religion the Kingdom of God on earth today?
How does the Bible describe the Kingdom of God, and when did God begin revealing information about His Kingdom to mankind?
Daniel Forsees the Kingdom of God
Daniel was not only able to describe the King Nebuchadnezzar's dream but to explain its prophetic meaning.

44 And in the days of these (worldly) kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Dan 2:44 (KJV)

[The stone cut out without hands, represented the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ, which should be set up in the kingdoms of the world, upon the ruins of Satan's kingdom in them. This was the Stone which the builders refused, because it was not cut out by their hands, but it is become the head stone of the corner. Of the increase of Christ's government and peace there shall be no end. The Lord shall reign, not only to the end of time, but when time and days shall be no more. ]

14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.Mark 1:14-15 (KJV)

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Matt 24:14-15 (KJV)

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. Matt 13:19 (KJV)

16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. 17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matt 4:16-17 (KJV)

Which Way of Life? Trust in God is the result of a choice. God's way of life was not the only choice our first parents faced.
The Need for a Redeemer
God denied access to the tree of life to Adam and Eve and their descendants until the promised Seed, the Messiah, would appear and redeem them and permanently reconcile them to God.
The Beginning of God's Chosen People
God began a process that would bring blessings to every inhabitant of earth. Through Abraham and his descendants, God would begin a temporary physical kingdom, the nation of Israel.

We learn of a direct relationship between the dynasty of kings God promised would descend from Abraham and David and the Kingdom of God preached by Jesus Christ.

The King of the Coming Kingdom
The birth of a messianic King revealed through the prophecy. Jesus, the Messiah, rule over all. He was born to be a king!
The Gospel Jesus Taught from the beginning focused on the Kingdom of God.
The Apostles Teach the Same Gospel To enter into and share in the Kingdom of God is consistently given as the ultimate goal of believers in Christ.

A Counterfeit Gospel Arises Satan deceives mankind by counterfeiting and corrupting the teachings of God. Our world is dominated by the great deceiver, Satan the devil

The Reign of a New Kingdom will be miraculous, unprecedented event accompanying Christ's return?
From the beginning God has shown His desire to build an eternal relationship with the human race.
The gospel includes three aspects of His plan to build this spiritual relationship. All center on Jesus Christ.
The Essence of the 'Everlasting Gospel'
God's message to mankind is eternal and consistent. He has always emphasized the importance of our having a relationship with Him as our Creator.

Jesus Christ came bearing the good news, the gospel, of the Kingdom of God. taking upon himself the sins of the entire world

9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Col 1:9-10 (KJV)

What is the Gospel of the Kingdom of God? it's the truth message of what God has done (through Jesus Christ) on our behalf to SAVE US FROM ETERNAL DAMNATION. He worked out all the provisions necessary (that was required of a Holy GOD) that we may once again enter into his presence that we may be complete in him.
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 2 Cor 5:19 (KJV)

Jesus, the Peace Maker!

Men as Leader

Upholding the Headship Ministry

 The duty of men is to acquire knowledge and love so that everything they do is right and true, patterned after Jesus Christ, for "this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3). Each man should learn how to conduct himself like the Savior, who learned from his Father, for "no power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned; by kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile" It is a general responsibility of all men in the Church to serve as home teachers;

The headship of man in his role of leadership to which the woman is subordinate is therefore God's arrangement for good order. (Genesis 1:31) it is the office of the pastoral ministry that he has restricted to qualified men. Christian men ought to take their leadership responsibilities seriously, and Christian women also have the responsibility of encouraging men to fulfill their obligations and duties of leadership. Our Lord has revealed that He wants the headship principle to be upheld in the church. It is for this reason that the Lord has restricted the pastoral office to men. (. I Timothy 2:11-14

God has a role for men and a role for women that He put within them when He created them and it is by nature that men and women live according to the Bible. No verse of the Bible will cancel out another verse or else God Himself would be contradictory in His writings making Him out to be a liar. We know that God is not a liar or else our salvation would be in jeopardy. Because of this knowledge what are the similarities and differences between man and woman?

Many people and Christians believe that men and women have the same authority and can both teach Bible doctrine in the church because we are all one in Christ. This Bible passage in the book of Galatians is teaching on salvation, blessings and our inheritance in Christ. The above scripture has nothing to do with our authority in Christ or our gender calling to teach in the body of Christ.

God does see a difference between man and woman when it comes to teaching His Word and having authority. See First Timothy 2:12 (And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence) and you will see that God definitely notices a difference with men and women when it comes to authority. Galatians 3:29 speaks of all believers in Christ as having the same inheritance regardless of sex or background because all of that changes when you accept Christ as your Savior.

Do not confuse your position in Christ given you by God when you have faith in Christ and become apart of the family of God enjoying the blessings of Abraham and your eternal inheritance as a reward for your faith with the natural role you have. Your role as men and women have been placed inside of you when you were created, therefore it is very natural to live out of this truth when you learn who you are as a person. The Bible tells you, who you are, study it and learn by God all about yourself.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. Gen 3:6 (KJV)

And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. 5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: 1 Cor 11:1-5 (KJV)

What does the Bible say about Women Ministering?

Question: "Women pastors / preachers? What does the Bible say about women in ministry?"

Answer: There is perhaps no more hotly debated issue in the church today than the issue of women serving as pastors/preachers. As a result, it is very important to not see this issue as men versus women. There are women who believe women should not serve as pastors and that the Bible places restrictions on the ministry of women, and there are men who believe women can serve as preachers and that there are no restrictions on women in ministry. This is not an issue of chauvinism or discrimination. It is an issue of biblical interpretation.

The Word of God proclaims, “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent” (1 Timothy 2:11-12). In the church, God assigns different roles to men and women. This is a result of the way mankind was created and the way in which sin entered the world (1 Timothy 2:13-14). God, through the apostle Paul, restricts women from serving in roles of teaching and/or having spiritual authority over men. This precludes women from serving as pastors, which definitely includes preaching to, teaching, and having spiritual authority over men.

There are many “objections” to this view of women in ministry. A common one is that Paul restricts women from teaching because in the first century, women were typically uneducated. However, 1 Timothy 2:11-14 nowhere mentions educational status. If education were a qualification for ministry, the majority of Jesus' disciples would not have been qualified. A second common objection is that Paul only restricted the women of Ephesus from teaching (1 Timothy was written to Timothy, who was the pastor of the church in Ephesus). The city of Ephesus was known for its temple to Artemis, a false Greek/Roman goddess. Women were the authority in the worship of Artemis. However, the book of 1 Timothy nowhere mentions Artemis, nor does Paul mention Artemis worship as a reason for the restrictions in 1 Timothy 2:11-12.

A third common objection is that Paul is only referring to husbands and wives, not men and women in general. The Greek words in the passage could refer to husbands and wives; however, the basic meaning of the words refers to men and women. Further, the same Greek words are used in verses 8-10. Are only husbands to lift up holy hands in prayer without anger and disputing (verse 8)? Are only wives to dress modestly, have good deeds, and worship God (verses 9-10)? Of course not. Verses 8-10 clearly refer to all men and women, not only husbands and wives. There is nothing in the context that would indicate a switch to husbands and wives in verses 11-14.

Yet another frequent objection to this interpretation of women in ministry is in relation to women who held positions of leadership in the Bible, specifically Miriam, Deborah, and Huldah in the Old Testament. This objection fails to note some significant factors. First, Deborah was the only female judge among 13 male judges. Huldah was the only female prophet among dozens of male prophets mentioned in the Bible. Miriam's only connection to leadership was being the sister of Moses and Aaron. The two most prominent women in the times of the Kings were Athaliah and Jezebel—hardly examples of godly female leadership. Most significantly, though, the authority of women in the Old Testament is not relevant to the issue. The book of 1 Timothy and the other Pastoral Epistles present a new paradigm for the church—the body of Christ—and that paradigm involves the authority structure for the church, not for the nation of Israel or any other Old Testament entity.

Similar arguments are made using Priscilla and Phoebe in the New Testament. In Acts 18, Priscilla and Aquila are presented as faithful ministers for Christ. Priscilla's name is mentioned first, perhaps indicating that she was more “prominent” in ministry than her husband. However, Priscilla is nowhere described as participating in a ministry activity that is in contradiction to 1 Timothy 2:11-14. Priscilla and Aquila brought Apollos into their home and they both discipled him, explaining the Word of God to him more accurately (Acts 18:26).

In Romans 16:1, even if Phoebe is considered a “deaconess” instead of a “servant,” that does not indicate that Phoebe was a teacher in the church. “Able to teach” is given as a qualification for elders, but not deacons (1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:6-9). Elders/bishops/deacons are described as the “husband of one wife,” “a man whose children believe,” and “men worthy of respect.” Clearly the indication is that these qualifications refer to men. In addition, in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:6-9, masculine pronouns are used exclusively to refer to elders/bishops/deacons.

The structure of 1 Timothy 2:11-14 makes the “reason” perfectly clear. Verse 13 begins with “for” and gives the “cause” of Paul’s statement in verses 11-12. Why should women not teach or have authority over men? Because “Adam was created first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived.” God created Adam first and then created Eve to be a “helper” for Adam. This order of creation has universal application in the family (Ephesians 5:22-33) and the church. The fact that Eve was deceived is also given as a reason for women not serving as pastors or having spiritual authority over men. This leads some to believe that women should not teach because they are more easily deceived. That concept is debatable, but if women are more easily deceived, why should they be allowed to teach children (who are easily deceived) and other women (who are supposedly more easily deceived)? That is not what the text says. Women are not to teach men or have spiritual authority over men because Eve was deceived. As a result, God has given men the primary teaching authority in the church.

Many women excel in gifts of hospitality, mercy, teaching, and helps. Much of the ministry of the local church depends on women. Women in the church are not restricted from public praying or prophesying (1 Corinthians 11:5), only from having spiritual teaching authority over men. The Bible nowhere restricts women from exercising the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12). Women, just as much as men, are called to minister to others, to demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and to proclaim the gospel to the lost (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 3:15).

God has ordained that only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church. This is not because men are necessarily better teachers, or because women are inferior or less intelligent (which is not the case). It is simply the way God designed the church to function. Men are to set the example in spiritual leadership—in their lives and through their words. Women are to take a less authoritative role. Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3-5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. The only activity women are restricted from is teaching men or having spiritual authority over them. This logically would preclude women from serving as pastors/preachers. This does not make women less important, by any means, but rather gives them a ministry focus more in agreement with God’s plan and His gifting of them.

It's not what you have done, but what he has done!

Accepted In the Beloved

God's love for us is beyond our ability to fully understand, but not beyond our ability to realize, accept and enjoy. The apostle John wrote in I John 3:1,"See how great a love the Father has bestowed upon us that we should be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did no know Him." Can you feel the warmth of God's love shining on you today? You can get out in the sunshine and the sun's rays just warm you through and through, but you must get in the sun. That is how it is with God's love. When you let it shine on you it warms you through and through. Many people have told me how they could feel God's love; that they could feel a warmth which was just wonderful. Well I have felt the warmth of God's love also. God's love is wonderful. But sometimes we do things that sort of put us in the shade, so to speak and we can't feel the warmth of God's love shining on us. We are the ones who put up the umbrellas which shade us from the warmth of God's love. Paul told the Church in Romans 8:38 - 39, "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor live, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

The question is why do we feel unloved by God? Almost any child of God, young or old can tell you that sin brakes our fellowship with God. Whether our sin is some gross moral sin, or a sin of the mind, like pride, envy or jealousy, sin seems to be the culprit which puts up the umbrella and causes us not to feel the warmth of God's love. Yet there is still a puzzling question. Why when fellowship with God is not in order do we feel unloved by God? Why do so many Christians when they sin feel driven away from God? When they should feel driven toward His great love, with a repentant heart. I have known Christians who let one sin drive them away from God when in fact they were truly sorry for that sin, but because of it felt unloved by God. This is a great problem with pastors and ministers today as they see their flocks eaten away little by little with no explanation plain or clear cut. What too many Christians lack today is a real understanding of the Grace of God. Paul truly had a revelation of the Grace of God like no other. He wrote in Romans 11:33-36. "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been his counselor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen." Paul truly knew what were the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge which God has concerning man and his spiritual needs. But the Holy Spirit revealed something else very great to Paul and that was the unsearchable judgments of God, that is the Grace of God in dealing with man and the problem of sin. Paul listed some things which could not separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, so why does sin, when it is so easily taken to God and dealt with. After all, when we are not able to receive God's love on the end are we not in effect the same as separated from God's love, even though he is loving us just the same. Where does our problem lie? Paul told the Church in Ephesus he was praying for some things concerning them. His prayer, which was led by the Spirit of God, is recorded in his letter in Ephesians 1:17-19 he says he prayed, "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power" What does it mean to receive a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God? What is the hope of his calling? If the reader searches for the real issue in Paul's prayer and what Paul desires for them he will certainly discover that what they really need to know is the grace of God. To really know God is to receive a revelation of his grace.

The Psalmist said in Psalm 103 that God made his acts known to the sons of Israel but he made known his ways to Moses. What Moses knew about God that the others did not know was his grace. Many times today we have received God's grace, but we have only known his acts, much like the children of Israel who Moses led. We know his acts, but do not know and understand his ways, that is, his grace. We must know his grace if we are to succeed in the Kingdom of God. We as individuals must have a revelation of the "Grace of God" or we will not know just how accepted we are. The letter to the Ephesians tells us in Ephesians 1:6, "To the praise of the glory of his grace, where in he hath made us accepted in the beloved." There is much which lies in the realm of being accepted in Christ Jesus. In Ephesians 2:13-14 we are Admonished to,"Remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace." The Lord tells us in I Peter 2:9-10, "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light; which in time past were not a people, but now are the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy." We have been taught much about what it means to be a child of God. We have learned much about how it is by the blood of Christ that we come to God and how without his shed blood no man could call himself anything but a stranger to God as the gentiles were once strangers to covenant and promise which was made to Israel. Peter tells us just how accepted we are, but do we really know in our hearts what it really means to be accepted by God? Do we really understand all that is contained in the thing we have termed "The Grace of God"? Sigmund Freud was the first psychoanalyst and considered the father of understanding human behavior. Freud said there were three urges or desires which controlled all human behavior. The strongest human desire which motivated more of human life than any other Freud said was the sex urge. This is indeed a very strong motivating force in our lives, however if we look closely we will see another desire stronger than the sex drive. It is a desire that Freud did not list. It is the desire to be accepted. The desire to be accepted is the strongest desire in the human life and that desire literally dictates every area of human behavior. The desire to be accepted by others determines what we wear, what we drive, where we go, how we act, what we do, and add infinity.

Every religion man practices is man's effort seeking to be accepted by God what ever they conceive him to be. Ephesians 1:6 says we are accepted by God. I do not live my life seeking acceptance by God, because through Jesus Christ I am completely accepted by God. Oh, how we as children of God have missed this point in our preaching, teaching and personal revelation. Many Christians are living their lives with the deep inner motive of being accepted by God. So many Christian fear that they will not be accepted by God, when the Word of the Lord plainly states we are already accepted in Christ. If I live my life seeking to be accepted by God, when I sin or come short of what I know God wants me to be, there is only one way I can feel and that is unaccepted. One of the Most puzzling questions facing Pastors today is why so many active Christians who are diligent workers in the Kingdom of God seem to grow cold and even become unchurched. What happens to their desire to serve God and work in his church? Have they become weary in well doing? Sometimes that is the problem, but usually that is not the problem. Many times it is because they are never able to become all they know God wants them to be so they feel unaccepted. No one ever makes it completely into the likeness of Christ, yet the scripture is plain we are accepted because of him and not because of us. Why does it seem like a Christian who commits a sin, which may not have great consequences, can not accept God's forgiveness and go forward in the Kingdom of God. God's forgiveness should be easy for us to accept, but if our sin makes us feel unaccepted by the Lord then our feeling of acceptance can be a difficult thing to restore. Although we can not live on how we feel, we need to feel accepted by God and not feel unaccepted. In Hosea 4:6 God's people were perishing for lack of knowledge. God's people today are being trampled down because of lack of knowledge. Paul not only knew he was accepted by the Lord, the Holy Spirit also had him record much for us. Philippians 3:8-10 says: "More than that I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ, and may be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death." Like Paul we must quit striving to be accepted by God; and strive to know him.

We must seek God's face not his will. When we realize we are first and foremost accepted in Christ and expand our energies and efforts seeking to know God we will know his will. Christians can spend much time and energy seeking the "will of God" as if it were some commodity or some data statistic to be written out, or even worse it seems to many as if it were the will-o'-the-wisp never to be found. When we realize as we seek God's face his will becomes natural for us and even spiritually logical, in not only the walking of our everyday lives, but also in matters which are no normal everyday decisions. As with all things there is a balance; while we must know we are totally accepted in Christ. We must also know the call of god is clear from Genesis to Revelation. That call is holiness unto the Lord. The Apostle Peter writes in 1 Peter 1:14-16, "As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, be ye Holy; for I am holy." If we are indeed saved by grace and not by works and Ephesians 2:8 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourself: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Then, why must we live holy lives? There are certainly many answers around to this question. Some say well if God saved me the least I can do is live holy; or one might say we are to be holy because we love God. I guess the foremost is to say that it is a commandment of God. And we could add many others. All of these reasons are scriptural and serve to call many to seek a holy life; but they also cause many to feel unaccepted. We feel we must live holy because it is a command, or to show God we love him and when we put aside holiness and become guilty of sin we feel unaccepted because it is so easy to base our acceptance on our holiness. None of these reasons are the actual reason to live a holy life although they are indeed a part of the whole; but only a part and give us a distorted view. Like the three blind men who were asked to tell what an elephant was like. The first blind man felt of the elephants leg. He said, "an elephant I believe is much like a tree." The second felt of his trunk. He commented that an elephant must be something like a snake. The third felt of his side and said, "an elephant is somewhat like a house." Each had an incomplete view of the whole. God's reason for creating man was for fellowship. He redeemed man from darkness and moved him into light and fellowship. It is God's desire to have fellowship with us; yet it has been so hard for us to keep foremost in our thoughts that we must live holy lives so we can have fellowship with God. We must be the kind of people the Holy Spirit is comfortable being around. There are some people, because of the way they are, or the way they do, or because of their attitude, who we are not comfortable being around. We must be the kind of people the Holy Spirit is comfortable being around. The Holy Spirit was sent to reveal Jesus and the Father to us. Jesus said in John 15:26 that the Holy Spirit would testify of Him. If we are to learn more about God, learn more of his nature, his love, then we must live our lives in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Then God can be revealed to us and therefore through us to those around us.

The problem of acceptance is difficult to deal with because it is often deep within our natures. Many people grow up never having felt accepted a children, and often parents cause children to feel unaccepted. The number two cause of teen age deaths second to traffic accidents is suicide. There are many causes of teen suicide; but a big one is that they feel unaccepted. Let us look at an example which might happen in any Christian home. If a child makes an "F" on their report card, we say you should at least have had a "D". They make a "D" and we say that is below average you should make at least a "C". The child then brings home a "C", and he or she hears it wouldn't have taken much more to make a "B". Then they make a "B". We might reply to the "B" with something like; well you are capable of making an "A". Then if perchance the child brings home an "A", we might say an "A" is very good, but you should have had an "A" to start with. We are never satisfied and unintentionally we make our children feel as though we do not accept them. If out children grow up feeling this way, and if we grew up feeling this way, is it any wonder Christians feel as though they are not accepted by the Lord when they fail to perform in a certain way? A certain way they believe is expected of them. When a person feels unaccepted he sometimes figures, the Lord probably gets tired of his repentance again and again. Instead of being driven to God by his sin; he is driven away, where he can not find peace or forgiveness. We need to know more than ever that we are accepted in Christ. When we really get this down into our spirits then we can accept others. We can accept others only to the degree that I realize I am accepted. How much more harmony there will be as we learn how accepted we are and how to accept others, even with their quirks, their ways, and the things about then that have not yet become like our master. If you are a Christian and have been born again you are "accepted in the Beloved!"

Preparing for the Harvest of the Lord!

GOD-given Revival

Preparing for the HARVEST

Before the harvest can take place, the Church must be revived. Unlike all the glitter and hoopla often seen at controlled revivals, or man-ordained revivals, God-given revival starts with an inward working of the Holy Spirit. Man has perverted the true attributes of God-given revival. Revival from the Lord is a cutting away of the old, dead limbs, a pruning. The fruit to be seen is repentance from dead works, and a recommitted love for Jesus Christ. (2 Pet 3:9)"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." Sometimes it doesn't look like the traditional revival because the church membership decreases. Those who will not submit to the work of the Holy Spirit will fall away. Any and all who will call upon the mercy of God through the Lord Jesus Christ will be changed. Once the work of revival has made ready, a great harvest of souls will pour in.
As the time of harvest draws closer, we must keep in mind that there have been tares planted in with the wheat. The wise harvester must have the heart and eye of a wise, loving shepherd. Remember, it is at harvest time that the wheat and the tares are separated. As we are in the midst of these changes, we must keep watch in the Spirit that neither the crop nor the reapers would be destroyed. The saints of God must stay clothed in the whole Armor of God and trained in discernment so that they do not fall prey to the enemy's devices. (2 Cor 2:11) "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices."
Two types of spirits that are sent to work against the revival and the harvest are the spirit of witchcraft and the pharisaic spirit. The spirit of witchcraft has always been recognized in the Bible as rebellion. As God is preparing us, we must not try to understand everything that is happening with our natural reasoning. The carnal mind is an enemy of God; its nature is to rebel. If the spirit of witchcraft can, it will persuade people to do their own will and make them think what they are doing is not offensive to God. The other extreme is the work of the pharisaic or religious spirit. The Pharisee follows strictly the traditions and laws handed down through his religion. This type of spirit would persuade people to think they are justified by doing what they think is good and right. Jesus said: (Mat 5:20) "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." The grace, mercy, and righteousness of God is obtained through repentance. When our righteousness is based solely upon our own goodness, we are not fit for the Kingdom of God, much less prepared to join in the harvest.
Will the potential bride of Christ humble herself by going into the field to glean the harvest, as Ruth did before her betrothal to Boaz? Will she count herself of low estate before men, that she may be exalted by God? Will she forsake all that in the natural could be called her own life? The quest is great and demanding, but don't get discouraged. Even in the natural there is great joy and expectation to go along with the hard work as a harvest is about to be gathered. The Lord has called us to a time of celebration, as well as a time of preparation. Take joy in the Lord and make ready for the harvest. Hallelujah!

Public Worship

The Roles Men and Women in the Church!

I Timothy 2:8-15

The Role of men in leading prayer when the church gathers; I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

That the men pray everywhere: This has the idea of “In every church,” and not of “In every place.” Paul’s focus is on what the church does when it comes together for meetings.

The idea that we should pray constantly and that prayer should be a normal part of our live wherever we go is good and valid; but it is not what Paul means here.

Everywhere: “The directions are to apply to every Church without exception; no allowance is to be made for the conditions peculiar to any locality.”

. That the men: Makes it clear Paul assumed men would take the lead at meetings of the congregation. Since the lifting up of hands was a common posture of prayer in ancient cultures, this text speaks of men leading public prayer - men representing the congregation before God’s throne.

“The ministers of public prayer must be the men of the congregation, not the women.”

Lifting up holy hands: Hands that are lifted up must be holy - hands that are set apart unto God, and not given over to evil.

Without wrath and doubting: Such prayers must be without wrath (praying “angry” prayers) and without doubting (praying without faith). When we pray angry, or pray without faith, we can do more bad than good – especially when the prayer is public.

“Having no vindictive feeling against any person; harboring no unforgiving spirit, while they are imploring pardon for their own offences.”

Women should emphasize spiritual preparation and beauty more than physical preparation and beauty.

In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.

In like manner also: The word also refers back to the statement that the men pray everywhere in 1 Timothy 2:8. Paul thought the principle of (I Timothy 2:8) should apply in various congregations, and so should the principle in (1 Timothy 2:9.)

That the women adorn themselves in modest apparel: This is how Christian women are supposed to dress, especially at their Christian meetings. The words propriety and moderation help explain what modest apparel is.

Propriety asks, “Is it appropriate for the occasion? Is it over-dressed or under-dressed? Is it going to call inappropriate attention to myself?” Moderation asks, “Is it moderate? Is it just too much – or far too little?” Moderation looks for a middle ground.

The braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing Paul mentions were adornments that went against the principles of propriety and moderation in that culture.

How you dress reflects your heart. If a man dresses in a casual manner, it says something about his attitude. Likewise, if a woman dresses in an immodest manner, it says something about her heart.

“Woman has been invidiously defined: An animal fond of dress. How long will they permit themselves to be thus degraded?” (Clarke)

. But . . . with good works: The most important adornment is good works. If a woman is dressed in propriety and moderation, with good works, she is perfectly dressed. Good works make a woman more beautiful than good jewelry.

Women are to show submission, and yield to the authority of the men God has appointed to lead in the church.

Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.

Let a woman learn in silence: This unfortunate translation has led some to believe that it is forbidden for women to even speak in church meetings. Paul uses the same word translated silence in I Timothy 2:2, and it is translated peaceable there. The idea is without contention instead of total silence.

In other places in the New Testament, even in the writings of Paul, women are specifically mentioned as praying and speaking in the church (1 Corinthians 11:5). To learn in silence has the idea of women receiving the teaching of the men God has chosen to lead in the church, with submission instead of contention.

Submission is the principle; to learn in silence describes the application of the principle.

Some have said the reason for this is because in these ancient cultures (as well as some present-day cultures), men and women sat in separate sections. The thought is that women interrupted the church service by shouting questions and comments to their husbands during the service. Clarke expresses this idea: “It was lawful for men in public assemblies to ask questions, or even interrupt the speaker when there was any matter in his speech which they did not understand; but this liberty was not granted to women.”

With all submission: The word for submission here literally means, “To be under in rank.” It has to do with respecting an acknowledged order of authority. It certainly does not mean that men are more spiritual than women or that women are inferior to men.

“Anyone who has served in the armed forces knows that ‘rank’ has to do with order and authority, not with value or ability. . . . Just as an army would be in confusion if there were no levels of authority, so society would be in chaos without submission.”

I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man: Paul’s meaning seems clear. Women are not to have the role of teaching authority in the church. To be under authority is the principle; not teaching is the application.

Paul is saying that the church should not recognize women as those having authority in the church regarding matters of doctrine and Scriptural interpretation.

. Not all speaking or teaching by a woman is necessarily a violation of God’s order of authority in the church. Whatever speaking or teaching is done by a woman must be done in submission to the men God has appointed to lead the church.

1 Corinthians 11:1-12 emphasizes the same principle. Women are to always act under authority in the congregation, demonstrated in Corinthian culture by the wearing of a head covering. Therefore a woman in the Corinthian church could only pray or prophesy if she demonstrated that she was under the leadership of the church, and she demonstrated this by wearing a head covering and by acting consistently with that principle.

I do not permit: The strength of Paul’s wording here makes it challenging to obey this command in today’s society. Since the 1970’s, our culture has rejected the idea that there may be different roles for men and women in the home, in the professional world, or in the church. In this text (among others), the Holy Spirit clearly says there is a difference in roles.

But the cultural challenge must be seen in its true context - not just a struggle between men and women, but as a struggle with the issue of authority in general. Since the 1960’s, there has been a massive change in the way we see and accept authority.

· Citizens do not have the same respect for government’s authority.

· Students do not have the same respect for teacher’s authority.

· Women do not have the same respect for men’s authority.

· Children do not have the same respect for parental authority.

· Employees do not have the same respect for their employer’s authority.

· People do not have the same respect for the police’s authority.

· Christians no longer have the same respect for church authority.

There are not many who would say that these changes have been good. Generally, people do not feel safer and there is less confidence in the culture. Television and other entertainment get worse and worse. In fact, our society is presently in, and rushing towards, complete anarchy - the state where no authority is accepted, and the only thing that matters is what one wants to do.

It is fair to describe our present moral state as one of anarchy. There is no moral authority in our culture. When it comes to morality, the only thing that matters is what one wants to do. And in a civil sense, many neighborhoods in our nation are given over to anarchy. The government’s authority is not accepted in gang-infested portions of our cities. The only thing that matters is what one wants to do.

We must see the broader attack on authority as a direct satanic strategy to destroy our society and millions of individual lives. He is accomplishing this with two main attacks. First, the corruption of authority; second, the rejection of authority.

. This idea of authority and submission to authority are so important to God that they are part of His very being. The First Person of the Holy Trinity is called the Father; the Second Person of the Holy Trinity is called the Son. Inherent in those titles is a relationship of authority and submission to authority. The Father Exercises authority over the Son and the Son submits to the Father’s authority - and this is in the very nature and being of God. Our failure to exercise Biblical authority, and our failure to submit to Biblical authority, isn’t just wrong and sad - it sins against the very nature of God. 1 Samuel 15:23 speaks to this same principle: For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.

I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man: Paul’s focus here is the public worship of the church. God has established a clear chain of authority in both the home and in the church, and in those spheres; God has ordained that men are the “head” - that is, that they have the place of authority and responsibility.

Our culture, having rejected the idea in a difference in role between men and women, now rejects the idea of anydifference between men and women. The driving trends in our culture point towards men who are more like women, and women who are more like men. Styles, clothes, perfumes, and all the rest promote this thought.

The Bible is just as specific that there is no general submission of women unto men commanded in society; only in the spheres of the home and in the church. God has not commanded in His word that men have exclusive authority in the areas of politics, business, education, and so on.

It also does not mean that every woman in the church is under the authority of every man in the church. Instead it means that those who lead the church - pastors and ruling elders - must be men, and the women (and others) must respect their authority.

The failure of men to lead in the home and in the church, and to lead in the way Jesus would lead, has been a chief cause of the rejection of male authority - and is inexcusable.

Some feel this recognition and submission to authority is an unbearable burden. They feel that it means, “I have to say that I am inferior, that I am nothing, and I have to recognize this other person as being superior.” Yet inferiority or superiority has nothing to do with this. We remember the relationship between God the Father and God the Son - they are completely equal in their being, but have different roles when it comes to authority.

Some may say that the church cannot work (or cannot work well) unless we go along with the times and put women into positions of spiritual and doctrinal authority in the church. From the standpoint of what works in our culture, they may be right. Yet from the standpoint of pleasing God by doing what He says in His word, they are wrong.

Reasons for God’s recognition of male authority in the Church; (Verses 13-14)

For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

For Adam was formed first: The first reason for male authority in the church is order of creation. Adam (man) was created first, and given original authority on earth.

The first command God gave to the human race is found in Genesis 2:16-17: Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die. This command was not given to woman at all. At the time that command was given, Eve was not yet created from Adam.

Therefore, Adam received his command and his authority from God, and Eve received her command and authority from Adam.

The woman being deceived: The second reason is the difference in the sin of Adam and Eve, as connected to their difference in authority.

Both Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, and Eve clearly sinned first. Yet, the Bible never blames Eve for the fall of the human race, but always blames Adam (through one man sin entered the world, Romans 5:12). Adam is responsible because of there was a difference of authority. Adam had an authority Eve did not have; therefore he also had a responsibility Eve did not have. Adam failed in his responsibility in a far more significant way than Eve did.

As well, Eve was deceived, and Adam was not deceived. Eve was tricked; but Adam sinned knew exactly what he was doing when he rebelled. This means that though Adam’s sin was worse, Eve’s ability to be more readily deceived made her more dangerous in a place of authority. “Eve’s reasoning faculty was at once overcome by the allegation of jealousy felt by God, an allegation plausible to a nature swayed by emotion rather than by reflection.”

Generally speaking, it may be observed that women seem to be more spiritually sensitive than men - but this can be true for good or evil.

Adam . . . the woman: “St. Paul says woman rather than Eve, emphasizing the sex rather than the individual, because he desires to give the incident its general application, especially in view of what follows.”

Significantly, these reasons are not dependent upon culture. Those who say “Paul was a sexist man in a sexist culture,” and discount these words, are simply not reading what the Holy Spirit says in the sacred Scriptures here.

Being a Christian woman in light of Eve’s curse. (Verse 15) Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.

Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing: Many people regard this as one of the most difficult passages in the whole Bible. On the surface, it could be taken to mean that if a woman continues in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control, that God will bless her with survival in childbirth – which was no small promise in the ancient world.

Yet this interpretation leaves many difficult questions. Is this an absolute promise? What about godly women who have died in childbirth? What about sinful women who have survived childbirth? Doesn’t this seem like just a reward for good works, and not according to God’s grace and mercy?

Saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self control: Some approach this passage saying saved refers to gaining eternal life. Yet this interpretation is even more difficult. Are women saved eternally by giving birth to children - but only if they continue with godly virtues? What about women who can’t have children? Are they denied salvation?

She will be saved in childbearing: Some say that Paul “Has mostly in mind that child-bearing, not public teaching, is the peculiar function of woman, with a glory and dignity all its own.” The idea is that one should let the men teach in church and let the women have the babies.

She will be saved in childbearing: A better way to approach this passage is based on the grammar in the original Greek language. In the original, it says she will be saved in the childbirth. This has the sense, “Even though women were deceived, and fell into transgression starting with Eve, women can be saved by the Messiah - whom a woman brought into the world.”

Probably, the idea here is that even though the “woman race” did something bad in the garden by being deceived and falling into transgression, the “woman race” also did something far greater, in being used by God to bring the saving Messiah into the world.

The summary is this: Don’t blame women for the fall of the human race; the Bible doesn’t. Instead, thank women for bringing the Messiah to us.

Faith, love, and holiness, with self-control: Most of all, we should note these positives. They are all qualities God wants to be evident in women, and that women have effectively nurtured in their children through generations.

Public Prayer

Public Worship

I Timothy 2 -

Public Prayer

1. (1) Pray for all men. Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.

a. First of all: This does not refer to time; it refers to importance. What comes next is of first importance in the heart and mind of Paul. Paul’s broader context following is the public worship of Christians, so this begins a series of instructions for those meetings.

“In the first place, let me remind you that the Church’s public prayers must be made expressly for all men, from the Emperor downwards.”

b. Supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks: These terms describe the wide categories of our communication with God.

i. Supplication is simply asking for something. Prayer should never be all asking, but it should ask in bold confidence from God’s Word.

ii. Prayers is a broad word, referring to all communication with the Lord.

iii. Intercessions refer to the requests we make on behalf of others. As we pray, there should be time when the needs of other find a place in our prayer before God’s throne.

iv. Giving of thanks is an essential part of our walk with God. Those who lack a basic sense of gratitude in their lives lack a basic Christian virtue.

c. All men: This tells us whom we are to pray for with these various means of prayer. The idea is that all men need prayer. You have never met someone that you cannot or should not pray for.

i. Most Christians find it easy to pray for their family, friends, and loved ones, but it should not end there. We should also pray for our enemies and for those with whom we have conflict. We should pray for those who annoy us, and for those who seem to be against us. Each of these fall into the category of all men.

ii. To pray for all men also means to pray evangelistically. We should pray for our friends who need to know Jesus, for our coworkers, and for others we have regular contact with.

iii. To pray for all men also means to pray for your pastors, to pray for your church, and to pray for other ministries you know and love.

d. Giving of thanks be made for all men: We can find something to thank God for regarding all men. Even those who persecute us and are against us have a place in the over-arching plan of God.

2. (2) Pray for those in authority. For kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

a. For kings and all who are in authority: Early Christians were often accused of undermining the state because they claimed a higher Lord other than Caesar. Yet they would point out that they supported the state by being good citizens and by praying for the emperor, not to him.

i. In the previous verse Paul said that we should give thanks for all men, and here he connects the thought with those who are in authority over us. We should give thanks for those who are in authority, because God has ordained government in society to keep order (Romans 13:1-7).

ii. The early church leader Tertullian explained: “We pray for all the emperors, that God may grant them long life, a secure government, a prosperous family, vigorous troops, a faithful senate, an obedient people; that the whole world may be in peace; and that God may grant, both to Caesar and to every man, the accomplishment of their just desires.” (Clarke)

b. That we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence: We should pray for a government and rulers that would simply leave us alone and let us live as Christians.

i. Christians are to look for no special favors from the government. Our goal is a level playing field, unrestricted by state intervention.

ii. At the time Paul wrote this, Christianity was not an illegal religion yet in the Roman Empire and it was still considered a branch of Judaism. It was even more reasonable to believe that the Roman government might just leave Christians alone to live their faith.

3. (3-4) The Goal of prayer for all men: That they would be saved. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

a. Who desires all men to be saved: Prayer for those in authority should always have an evangelical purpose. Our real goal is that they would come under the authority of Jesus, and make decisions allowing the gospel to have free course and be glorified.

b. Who desires all men to be saved: On a human level, we can certainly say that God desires all men to be saved. There is no one in such high authority that they don’t need salvation in Jesus.

i. However, from a divine perspective, we understand there is a sense in which we can not say that God desires all men to be saved - otherwise, either all men would automatically be saved, or God would not have left an element of human response in the gospel.

ii. God’s desire for all men to be saved is conditioned by His desire to have a genuine response from human beings. He won’t fulfill His desire to save all men at the expense of making men robots that worship Him from simply being programmed to do so.

c. Who desires all men to be saved: Because this is true (as seen from a human perspective), therefore the gospel must be presented to all without reservation. Any idea of limiting evangelism to the elect is absurd.

d. All men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth: Salvation is clearly associated with coming to the knowledge of the truth. One cannot be saved apart from at least some understanding of who Jesus is and what He has done to save us.

4. (5-7) How all men must be saved. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle; I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying; a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

a. One God and one Mediator: Through one Mediator, and One alone: The Man Christ Jesus. There is no valid way to God that does not come through Jesus.

i. This statement of Paul simply echoes what Jesus said in John 14:6: Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

ii. It is also simply logical. If Jesus was at least a good and honest man, then He told the truth when He said that He was the only way to God. If He did not tell the truth at this important point, then it is difficult to regard His as even a good or honest man, much less a prophet from God. If He was wrong then He was either a liar or a lunatic.

iii. In the modern world most people think that any road leads to God, if followed sincerely or with a good heart. The Bible argues against this idea.

· The Pharisee and the tax collector each came to God sincerely, but one was accepted and one was not (Luke 18:9-14).

· The rich young ruler came to Jesus sincerely, but was rejected because he did not give up everything to follow Jesus (Luke 18:18-23).

· In Leviticus 10:1-3, the story of Nadab and Abihu - and God’s judgment upon them - makes it clear that we cannot come to God any way we please, and that sincerity is not enough.

· Proverbs 14:12 is instructive: There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

·

·

iv. Many people think that God would be unfair or narrow minded to have only one way to salvation; but the thought needs to be turned over. To say that God is unfair for this, one would have to look at Jesus dying on the cross – the spotless Son of God, came from heaven and lived humbly and died in horrific agony, both physical and spiritual – to look at Jesus on the cross and say, “Thanks God; I appreciate the gesture, but that isn’t enough. You’re going to have to do a little more than that, because that is only one way and if You are fair You will make several ways.”

b. The Man Christ Jesus: This reminds us that Jesus is still human, even as He is enthroned in heaven right now. His humanity was not merely a temporary phase. When the Eternal Son, the Second Person of the Trinity, added humanity to His deity, He added it forever - not only for 33 years.

i. Jesus is still fully God and fully man, but His humanity is glorified and resurrected. It is the pattern of the humanity that we will experience in heaven.

c. Who gave Himself: Jesus gave Himself. You can give your time without giving yourself. You can give your money without giving yourself. You can give your opinion without giving yourself. You can even give your life without giving yourself. Jesus wants us to give ourselves, just as He gave Himself.

d. Who gave Himself a ransom: Jesus gave Himself as a hostage, as a payment for our sins. He put Himself in our place and received the punishment and wrath from God the Father that we deserved. This is the basic message of the gospel.

i. A ransom for all: There is enough in the work of Jesus on the cross for everyone. No one will be turned away because Jesus ran out of love or forgiveness at the cross for them.

e. For which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle: This was the message Paul preached. The message was of salvation only through Jesus, and Jesus crucified (as in 1 Corinthians 2:1-2).

f. A teacher of the Gentiles: Paul began his ministry with an equal emphasis to both Jew and Gentile (Acts 13), but because of continued rejection by Jews, Paul began to emphasize his ministry to the Gentiles.
